Choosing a blog topic

Blogging

Whether you’re a new blogger or not, finding a blog topic can sometimes be challenging.

If you are a new blogger, and want to become successful at it, its important to find your niche.  What is a Niche?, It is …

… the area you want to build your blog and topics around.  Asking yourself these questions might help you figure it out…

‘What can I talk about for hours on end and not be at a loss for words or ever get tired of?  What can I put my heart and soul behind?”

You want to make it very clear to your readers what niche your in as you share your blog and build your followers.  Over time, as you continue to offer value to people,  they will seek you out as the ‘go to‘ person for information.

Now…

…What to blog about?

Sometimes this presents us with a challenge.  There are so many things that happen in our lives on a daily basis that no one should be at a loss when searching for a  new topic to blog about.

People often tell me they are at a loss at times for new topics to blog about.  I simply tell them to look around and take notice of what is happening in their day to day lives.  As we  go about our days, there are people we encounter or situations that arise and we must stop and ask ourselves…

… what did I learn or get from that?

Life is a journey, filled with lessons along the way.  I so believe that everything in life happens for a reason…

…as long as we are open to seeing it as such.  There is so much to learn!  Life is a journey filled with obstacles and lessons but most people don’t want to accept that.  They are stuck in a constant fight and struggle with life, instead of… …growing  and moving forward.

As these lessons are presented to us and we learn what we need from them, blog about  those experiences in a way that will tie into your niche.   There is someone out there going through a similar situation and you might save them alot of heartache, frustration, or time and energy.

Or maybe they are trying to figure out why something is happening to them and by you sharing your experiences, it sheds a completely new light on the situation.  I’m sure they will be forever grateful.  You just might gain a follower for life.

Maybe its something new that you learned how to do…

…share what you learned and become a leader for others.

… the inspirations are endless!

Here’s a suggestion to help you find ideas about what to blog about…

…right now, I want you to relax… and quiet your mind.  If you are not in a quiet place, go find one where you can tune out the world for a few minutes.  Now sit and try to think of absolutely nothing!  This will probably be difficult at first as I know we all have so much chatter  going on in our minds.  But after doing this a few times, you’ll get the hang of it.  You know the saying…practice makes perfect!

If you really listen to what your mind is telling you, you’ll be surprised at all the ideas that come flowing in…

I would really enjoy reading your thoughts about this post so leave me a comment below.

Be sure to share it with your friends, I’m sure they’ll thank you for it.  :)

To all your success,

Nice post. You know it is one of those thing that tend to be a growing and changing topic of conversation. Great job pointing out that you want to make sure that it is a topic that you could rattle on about, while keeping things interesting. Don’t you think it makes a huge difference when they can tell that you are being open and honest? I spoke with a well known guy the other night. He said that it was interesting to note that there are a lot of chiefs and not very many indians out there. When you are always in motion and learning on a regular basis, the posts have a growth that is very cool to see.

I really like your material. Keep up the good work!

    Hey Matthew,

Thanks so much for your feedback :)

I absolutely think it makes a HUGE difference to be open and honest!! People can smell a shark from a
    mile away!

Its interesting the conversation you had… I think there are alot of people that want to call themselves chiefs,
but aren’t willing to do the do to earn the title. Our minds must be a sponge to constantly soak up information
on a regular basis and then add that value back to others.

I usually find that if I don’t even try to think about what to write… it appears.

It appears, that is, if you are being diligent in pursuing your online marketing goals EVERY DAY. If you are taking a class, reading a book, commenting on somebody’s blog… the daily chores… you WILL think of tons of things you want to share in your next blog. Just keep a notebook handy while you’re doing your work and I guarantee you’ll be jotting down at least 3 ideas for blogs every single day.

And like you said Sharon, pick the topics that will coincide best with your niche, and you’ve got it!

Great pointers on finding a blogging topic. That’s how I create most of mine, through experiences or thoughts that keep coming to light for me. Being aware of the messages that come to you and how you react to them usually blossoms into a great topic.

    Sharon,
I think we sometimes try also to be something we are not. If we are following our passion and living our truth then blogging and giving value should be of little effort. Important to believe in our value and know that it will reach the people and prospects we connect with because of commonalities. Build on your strengths, your interests and your life lessons.
Thanks for the reminder to take quiet time!

Hey Sharon, Great food for thought. Finding a niche sometimes comes out of the learning process. It’s like kids going to college, some know exactly what they want and major in it. Most, don’t or change a major finding out along the way of learning what inspires them.

Sometimes I too get carried away on my posts. Research says it must be about 500 words. When I do a word count it comes out to 2,000 – that’s called a Pillar post. Sometimes I leave it along, or sometimes I shorten it.

Finding a niche will come from the heart. I believe anyone who enters the field of internet marketing already knows, but sometimes, through new ideas, the passion is recognized and they go full speed ahead.

    Hi Sharon!

    Nice insights…

I realize that sometimes we get too stiff with our blog topic, which can make quite challenging to develop a body of posts that build our reputation in time.

As you say, when we just gear (not sure about the verb in English) the hole idea of blogging, in our lives, it becomes easier.

From personal experience I can say that sometimes to write a long, sharp post on a specialized topic can take hours of heavy work and research; and too often we miss the opportunity of making useful observations on topics that we don´t necessarily have to write an essay about.

    Thanks for sharing…
