I’m sure you have heard it many times before…
…The Fortune Is IN The List.
You are growing your list, and so,
you expect the money to be rolling in with each new subscription added. But its not, and you can’t understand why because you thought…
… if I grow my list, I’ll become very rich.
Let me say it again, ‘The Fortune Is IN The List’.
Just growing a list doesn’t automatically create you an income.
A list is something that needs to be nurtured, to be handled with care, so that one day, yes, it can make you very rich.
What a list does do, is it gives you an opportunity to create relationships with those people that, over time, will grow to trust you and trust what you are offering.
I want to ask you a few questions…
Are you communicating with your list on (at least) a weekly basis via e-mails? If not, why? If you can communicate with your list more, then do so. It will only benefit you in the long run. One way to accomplish this is with an AutoResponder, if you don’t have one working for you, I highly recommend you get one, ASAP!
Are you offering your list real value, OR…
…are you trying to pitch them on a regular basis, about products or services they should buy from you, or opportunities they should join you on?
If so, let me tell you my friend, that’s a sure way to loose them. You can forget about making any money from your list if that’s the strategy you are using. Not only are you doing a dis-service to the people on your list, you are hurting your own reputation!
Why not try using the 80/20 rule when working your list…
…Offer your list real, true value 80% of the time, and the other 20% of the time, you can offer your list the products or services you’re selling!
If you handle your list correctly, they will be forever loyal and follow you till the end of your marketing career!
So remember…
…The Fortune is not just having a list, it is IN the list!

I think the most common mistake I’ve seen among my clients is that once they bring people into their funnel (viz., their “List”), they either ignore them, or brutally and endlessly “Pitch” them.
This is a relatively short post, Sharon, but it’s one of the most critical ones anybody in internet marketing could read. I think if someone were to follow your advice (and example!), Sharon, they’d be giving themselves a GREAT opportunity to reach the next level in this business. You always get right to the heart of the matter!

Hi David,
So many people do exactly that, bring people in and then do one or another. Its a loss for them either way
They really don’t understand the value of having a list. Building that list is the most important thing they could do for their business.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts

Hi Sharon,
it’s always important to make finer distinctions. You discriminated clearly between simply having a list and nurturing it and taking care of it. That’s an important lesson. Keep up your great work.
Take care

I agree with you 100% Sharon. It’s all about relationships. I’ve watched people going after the numbers and ignoring the precious value they have in their hands. I am very picky about who is on my list. It may take more time, but in the long run, if I want to launch something, it goes to people that are valuable.
Great information to share. Thanks, Donna

Too many people get stuck on the ‘numbers’. Creating relationships is ‘key’. Its all about creating a list of people that trust you and want what you have to offer.

Hi Sharon,
People only buy from people they trust and know, so building a real relationship with our list is key in growing our businesses.
Sometimes people don’t get that…
Thanks for remind the 80/20 rule is a good parameter to follow.
Cheers

Very good post Sharon, sometimes we forget to nurture our list and work with them offering them value, so we develop that “Know, Like and Trust” Thanks for bringing this to our attention.
